Chrissy

A southern shelter sent Chrissy to a New Jersey rescue to find a better life but unfortunately, that is not what she found. Chrissy was seized by animal control after living in a home with too many animals. She was removed and went to live with a foster family immediately.

 

Although Chrissy is a very sweet girl, her trauma is deep and will likely take her a good amount of time to heal. Her amazing foster family is providing an abundance of love, time, and patience so she can overcome her general fearful nature. 

​

It is our goal that one day Chrissy will be ready for a forever home of her own.  She needs a home where she can continue to gain confidence and overcome her cautious reaction to people.  With this in mind, we are looking for a home without children.

 

Until that time she is in the very loving capable hands of her foster family.

Cooper

Cooper was raised in one home since he was a puppy. His life there was very stressful which led to him being fearful of loud noises. Cooper is loving, warm and friendly much of the time. He will need a quiet environment with someone who will give him time and space to feel comfortable in his new surroundings.

Do you live alone, have no other animals, have a fenced-in yard and can put Cooper away when you have company.   If so, Cooper may be the dog for you!

He is affectionate and playful and enjoys nice long walks. He just can’t take a lot of excitement but is a great companion.

Duke

Duke is a 7-year-old treeing walker coonhound who was found as a stray in rural NC. He is a beautiful leash walker and would be a great hiking companion for someone.  Duke is very affectionate and happy. He enjoys his family and although he loves to be outdoors he also enjoys a soft bed !!

 

Duke has very manageable resource guarding in a home environment- so he will need an experienced adopter and a child-free home, which is a shame because he loves children and is very gentle with them.

 

He can go anywhere with you as he is very friendly and fun.

Juliana

Juliana is about 3 years old and has been living in a devoted foster home for a year and a half.  Juliana was found with her brother Noah who has gone on to his forever home and is doing great.

Juliana proved to be the more timid one and would be considered a feral dog.

 

 In the year and a half that she has been in foster she has made some significant strides. She will need a special home and she is considered a project dog. If you have a pack of dogs and some patience she may be the dog for you

Kyla (Kylo)

Foster or foster-to-adopt family needed!!

Kyla was brought to the shelter by animal control when she was found living in a car with her owner, who loved her dearly but could not keep her with nowhere to go. Kyla was taken in by a shelter and waited many months for someone to come and get her. She has been a staff and volunteer favorite and has been easy for everyone to handle. Kyla is a happy, playful girl who enjoys meeting all people

 

She is super friendly and lived with children in her previous home we believed she was loved and the family just fell on hard times.  Kyla is very smart and so eager to please.  She is a boxer mix who is 3 years old and about 55 pounds.

She tested well with cats but will need to be an only dog at this time. Kyla is a special girl who is looking for someone to give her a second chance at love.

Lacey

Welcome to Lacey a beautiful golden retriever who was surrendered to us through our veterinarian and is now looking for a home of her very own.

She was purchased by her family through a breeder and while only 1 year old she has already had a litter of puppies. 

 

She is living in a wonderful foster home with 2 cats and 2 dogs and is playful, fun, and as smart as can be.  Lacey walks well on leash and loves to play fetch. She has a lovely temperament and will be an amazing addition to any family.

Monroe

Monroe is a fun, energetic, and vibrant 6 year-old purebred soft coated wheaten terrier. We took him as an owner surrender because he was nipping at children visiting the home.

Monroe is a wonderful dog who is affectionate and playful with his people. He would enjoy the company of another dog and in fact we think it would be great for him.

 

He will need a quiet home with someone willing to give him plenty of patience and time to help him adjust. He is a great walk, good in the car, house-trained and well behaved in the home.

Milo

Darling little Milo ended up at a NJ shelter with badly irritated skin due to apparent neglect.  NJSH provided him with excellent veterinary care and Milo is on the mend!  He is a wonderful dog full of life and love and eager to find his forever family.

Nikki

Nikki was surrendered to the shelter after being found as a stray. Sometimes there is no story and we don’t have one. What we do see is a happy, loving dog who is eager to please. Nikki is a husky/lab/hound mix who is about a year and half old and 49 pounds.

 

Nikki is a great walk on leash, great in the car and very smart. Nikki seems to have had some training because she knows touch and responds to a clicker. Her foster family reports that she is so very affectionate and loves her walks. Nikki has been very friendly with everyone she meets!

Rocco

Rocco was adopted as a puppy and returned to the shelter 14 years later as a senior dog. An overcrowded inner city shelter is no place for a senior. They are more susceptible to infection and he quickly developed kennel cough which led to pneumonia. He has been two months with us and has made an amazing recovery.  His cough is gone and his lungs are clear. Our veterinarian says he is in great shape for a 14 year old.

​

If you have ever thought of adopting a senior he is your guy. He still enjoys a walk and loves the car. He has had X-rays and blood work and all came out great.  he does take thyroid medication once a day and it is very reasonable.

 

We are looking for a forever foster or adopter for Rocco. We would like to see him as an only dog so that he can get all the attention but he can be with calmer dogs. He has a bit of arthritis and is not interested in playing with more active dogs.

Rusty Poodle

Rusty Poodle was surrendered to the shelter by the only family he has ever known. They said they were losing their home. He did not take it very well and was struggling at the shelter. We were asked if we could help him out. We have learned quite a lot about him during his time with us. Rusty does not want to share his things with other dogs. So he will need to be an only dog. Humans can take whatever they want from him. Rusty will need an experienced owner in an all adult home as an only dog. We think that he needs to feel safe again in a home of his own with someone willing to give him a chance. Rusty is 6 years old and only 9.6 pounds - he is tiny but fiesty!

Sparky

Sparky was surrendered to the shelter when his owner said she was moving and could not take him. While in foster we have found him to be house-trained, crate-trained and leash-trained. He is between 8 and 9 years old and 11 pounds.   Sparky is good with both dogs and cats. Older considerate kids only at this time.  Sparky is a nice little dog who enjoys squeaky toys and finding a nice lap to cuddle on.

 

A visit to our veterinarian has shown that he likely only sees shadows and one eye is better than the other. He had dental work and behaved very well at the vet.  

 

Sparky is a very sweet boy who needs a nice lap to cuddle on and will be a great companion for a very special family!

Sugar

Sugar is just as sweet as her name. This little pup is happy, playful, fun  and perfectly sized at about 40 pounds.

 

Sugar is a boxer mix and was part of a litter of 8, all with excellent temperaments. Most have already been adopted into loving homes and now it’s Sugar’s turn.

Sugar loves being with other dogs, and affectionate with people and older children. She has not been cat tested but we will test for an approved adopter.

Walter

Walter was found at one of our local NJ shelters. Senior dogs do not belong in shelters and he was absolutely terrified.  Once we got him settled into his foster home we realized that he wasn’t the same dog we met at the shelter.

 

We aren’t exactly sure but we think Walter is about 10 years old and delights in the company of other dogs, so he will need a home with another dog. He is happy and loves nothing more than relaxing in one of his many beds.

 

He has been seen by our vet and is in good health despite some missing teeth!!  Walter will be a great companion for a lucky person or family.

Wheezy

Wheezy, a 16-pound Corgi mix was surrendered to the shelter when her owner became ill and could no longer care for her. At 8 years old the shelter must be quite a scary place. Wheezy was very happy to get out of the shelter with us and simply cuddled up for a nice ride home. 

 

She is good with both dogs and cats. Wheezy is well-behaved in the home and can be left home without being destructive. The best news of all, she is housebroken. She is a great girl who is looking for a second chance with a family of her own.

 

Wheezy has recently been diagnosed with Cushing disease which is being treated with daily medication. She is doing great with it and will make a wonderful pet for a lucky family.

Chockey CP

Meet Chockey, this handsome boy is being fostered by a friend of ours and while he is not an NJSH dog we would love to help him find a home of his own!!

Chockey has been in a foster home for 13 months. He came from the Bahamas as a puppy and is
still building up his confidence!! This boy is smart and knows basic commands.

Chockey is a bit fearful and will bark when he first meets people but after about 10 minutes he settles in nicely. One great thing about him is he actually looks for direction from his people and responds well to it.

When we met him we just loved him and know that he is indeed a special dog. The perfect home for him would be one with a confident dog and someone with dog experience.

Chockey is currently living with both kids and dogs. He is a great size at just 47 pounds!! He has been lovingly cared for and is fully vetted.
