Chance

Chance was found as a stray and brought to an inner-city shelter. We sent Chance to our sister rescue in Pa to work with our trainer so we could learn all about him. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that he is a happy-go-lucky guy who is very cooperative. Chance is about 3 years, strong and energetic. We are looking for a single-family home with a fenced yard and older considerate children. Chance is looking for a chance at the happy life he so deserves.

Champ CP

Meet Champ! This amazing hunk is about 5 years old, weighs around 100lbs, is UTD on shots and neutered. Champ recently came into rescue in September of 2021 after he and another resident dog couldn’t get along.

When we met Champ we noticed his eyes were super cloudy so we made an appt with the Opthamolgist.  It didn’t take long to discover that Champ suffers from Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) and has already lost 70% of his vision. He has been taking a “nutraceutical” supplement to slow this progression; however, the sad fact is that Champ will eventually be completely blind. He has been acclimating quite well to his foster home. He has learned the layout of the yard, his kennel and stairs.

While he is doing very well, we would love to find Champ a home of his own. Blind dogs are not helpless. They are adoptable. They love just like a sighted dog. They need structure, a routine, and a human that they can depend on. Champ needs an adopter that has experience with visually impaired dogs, a fenced in yard, older kids or adult only. Champ MAY be able to live with a calm dog (not cats). A meet and greet will be required. Patience and routine will be key to Champs success in a forever home. ***** Please note that Champ is not an NJSH Pet Rescue dog but we are helping to find him a home

Christina & Skittles

NJSH rescued Christina & Skittles from an overcrowded shelter where they found themselves stranded, discarded by their owner and greatly stressed. They had lived with their owner their whole lives in an outdoor enclosure. Neither dog was neutered so it was no big surprise to NJSH to find out a few days after arriving that Christina was pregnant!  The puppies are all adopted into their individual loving homes so it is time for our search for a great home for Christina & Skittles to begin.  Christina is an Australian Shepherd/Lab mix, about 2 years old and 31 pounds.  Skittles is a Yellow Lab / Hound mix, about 4 years old and 50 pounds. Both love to go for walks on leash, are housebroken and crate trained. Christina & Skittles will be wonderful companions for a quiet home where they can relax with their people and go for a couple of walks a day.  They enjoy being outside and going for car rides.

Cooper

Cooper was raised in one home since he was a puppy. His life there was very stressful which led to him being fearful of loud noises. Cooper is loving, warm and friendly much of the time. He will need a quiet environment with someone who will give him time and space to feel comfortable in his new surroundings.  Cooper is 3 years old and we believe will flourish in the right situation. He has spent some time with our trainer that feels he can be successfully acclimated into a home where he can continue to develop his confidence. You must be willing to work with us on acclimating him into your home. We are sure that together we can change things for Cooper.

Duke

We rescued both Duke and his brother Bertie with unusual facial scarring a few years ago. They were both adopted quickly because like their breed (treeing walker coon hounds) they were very sweet and gentle. We visited several specialists and the scarring was found to be only cosmetic and nothing severe.  Duke is a great looking dog and an enjoyable walk. This dog excels being part of a pack and loves people!! He is cat friendly too !! He was returned to us when their were some changes in the home. We took him to the vet and he was fully vetted and brought up to date with shots. Duke was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and has been treated. His blood work was great and we are seeing the happy go lucky dog we remember !!  Duke would do best with another dog or dogs in a home with a fenced in yard. Duke is available for foster or adoption

Maribel

Miss Maribel is a sweet and sporty spice. She’s clever, playful, and loves people. She’s looking for a family she can play with and a place to lay out in the sun.

Her favorite things to do are basking in the sun, rolling in grass, chasing squirrels, meeting new people, tug of war, fetch, and living her best life. Her foster family says that when not playing, Maribel likes to cuddle and watch TV (Murder, She Wrote is a favorite!).

A year ago, Maribel was saved from the euthanasia list in rural North Carolina. After being shot, she required surgery to save her back leg. In the months since, she’s rehabilitated her leg and lived with fosters who have seen her personality and light shine.

Maribel would do best with an active family who can continue her basic obedience training (she’s learning: sit, lay down, stay, and recall). She needs patience as she settles into a new home and schedule. But her foster family says she is a quick learner and just needs a little time to build trust.

She still has the energy of a puppy but is fully house trained and crate trained. She loves to chew but only her toys and bones (no furniture!)

Maribel needs a fenced yard she can run and roll around in - but she is great on leash walks, too. A dog sibling to play tug of war with would be a plus! (No cats, please.

Molly

Molly, also known as Alia, is  the mother of 7 beautiful puppies all recently adopted. Molly’s previous life is unknown to us but we do know that she searched for a safe place to give birth to her puppies and still lost four of them to the cold despite her best efforts. Molly was rescued along with her surviving puppies the day after she gave birth and the family has been in a loving foster home ever since. Now that her puppies are adopted, Molly has learned to love and trust her foster mom and dad but is still timid around strangers. Molly is an extremely sweet girl that needs a family that will love her and patiently work on gaining her trust. Molly must be adopted to a home with a fenced in yard. You must live within 60 minutes drive of Chester, NJ to submit an adoption application for consideration.

Mya CP

Sweet Mya lost her home when her owner passed away. Sadly, the extended family was unable to keep her and she is looking for a new home to spend her golden years. Mya is a 12 year old, pittie mix. She is spayed and up to date on her vaccinations, and weighs about 50 pounds. Although she is a senior, Mya has a lot of spunk! She enjoys long walks and loves playing with her toys and snuggling with her people. Mya would do best in a home with older kids, or adults only. Someone that is retired or works from home would be great. She does have some separation anxiety and will bark when she’s left alone. Mya would prefer to be the only pet. She so deserves to spend her final years in a loving home, where she can be loved and spoiled. *** please note Mya is not an NJSH Pet Rescue dog - we are helping to find her a home.

Sara (Frida)

Sara (Frida) has been a beloved family member for the past 3 1/2 years. Sadly some some life changes have left her family with no choice but to rehome their beautiful dog. Sara is an active girl who adores the outdoors. A fenced in yard would be great for her. Sweet Sara is house trained and already knows how to behave in the home. Due to her exuberant nature we would prefer a home that does not have small children. Sara is 53 pounds and has been well taken care of. She is UTD, spayed and is heart worm negative.  She  hasn’t had much experience with dogs lately but has always done well with them in the past. We are still assessing her but of course a meet and greet with a companion animal will be done prior to adoption.  Please consider giving this beautiful girl a second chance - she has known nothing but love her whole life and we are hoping to find a family who will love her just as much. Submit an application at njshpetrescue.org if you live within 60 minutes of Chester, NJ.
